Dubbed the new M.I.A. (with a little more street in her) and Rollingstone's "artist to watch" this girl can drop some serious dance floor heat. Her debut album releases on April 29th and if its half as good as the songs on her myspace, then this girl is about to take over! She'll be destroying Coachella this summer as well so if your going I wouldn't miss her set for your life.
It's hard to imagine finding much to fault in an album that professes a serious devotion to the likes of the Thompson Twins and Kate Bush, but it's also hard to imagine taking such an album seriously. Credit M83, then, for gazing back at the '80s and escaping the revivalist void that traps so many different acts with so many different intentions....
M83 has fancied big sounds since rising up in France as a strange sort of sensuous post-rock act in 2003, but Saturdays=Youth boasts a more expansive sense of space, by a lot. And it serves in terms of songs as much as sound design: For all the awe kindled by the effectively perfect sound in a transcendent highlight like "Kim & Jessie," the real triumph is that M83 uses such a setting for more simple melody and emotion than ever before.
New information on a thief run over by a U-Haul that he reportedly stole. We now have this guy's name. The Palm Beach County sheriff's office tells us it all started when a man called 9-1-1 saying his U-Haul had been stolen. Deputies found the truck in Counterpoint Estates in Royal Palm Beach.
The man behind the wheel, 24-year-old Willie Lee Thomas, III, jumped out of the U-Haul with it still rolling. The van ran him over leaving him with injuries that eventually led to his death. Police are still looking for the caller who initiated the manhunt and for any witnesses. If you know anything, please call Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
Previously: A strange story leaves detectives with more questions than answers. A thief run over and killed by the U-Haul he just stolen. The person who reported it stolen is nowhere to be found. Before the police tape went up and people started taking photos, a man called 9-1-1 saying his U-Haul had been stolen. He follows it, but keeps getting disconnected from dispatch.
Deputies find the U-Haul, but a supervisor warns to hang back because a gun might be involved and because police can't get a hold of the man who reported the van stolen. The man behind the wheel jumped out of the U-Haul with it still rolling. It then runs him over leaving him with severe injuries. "His head injuries were so traumatic. They uncovered a handgun in one of his pockets. They thought he might have suffered a shotgun wound," says Sgt. Peter Palenzuela. He died Monday night at St. Mary's Medical Center. Meanwhile, detectives are looking for the man who initiated this entire thing.

Motel Motel began with three kids who were trying to meld their different musical aspirations into something like a synthesis. Motel Motel is Eric Engel (singer/rhythm guitar), Timo Sullivan (bass), Jeremy Duvall (drums) and Mickey Theis (guitar/badass). Where does the band's sound come from? Mickey tells us, "Our process for much of what we have written so far usually begins with Eric bringing something country-based, something that is "simple," by which I mean "good" to the table and then Jeremy and Timo and I trying to f*ck it up in a way that de-familiarizes it. I say "f*ck it up" because there is something naturally destructive/constructive about what happens in rehearsal where "destruction" and "construction" are not really choices in one side of a paradox, but sort of ends of the same rope tied in a circle."...exactly!
All the destructions, changes, misdirections and mutations that the boys inflict on their sound come together in their forthcoming LP "New Denver."
While you wait for New Denver to release, check out their EP "Old York" (trailer below) and some tracks off the new album at their MySpace
So Rock of Love 2 is over and someone other than Plastic Face Stripper (Daisy) won. But as always, we the viewers are always the real winners, especially when Heather (the OG of Rock of Love strippers form season 1) gives Plastic Face an old fashion Jerry Springer style BEAT DOWN on the reunion on Sunday night. God I can't wait for Rock of Love 3.
So the album came out a week or two ago, and of course I'M HOOKED (just get it, its Gnarls for crying out loud). This is their first single and its not even close to the best song on the album but still probably still better than 99% of the crap out right now. Have a listen and try not to dance...I dare you.
