Who needs a guitar to shred a guitar solo?

I've seen men whistle. I've seen men yodel. I've never seen this.

New Smashing Pumpkins Album To Feature 44 Songs, For Free

Billy Corgan has announced that the next Smashing Pumpkins album will consist of 44 songs. Better still, the songs will be “available absolutely free, to anyone anywhere.”

In a lengthy post on the band’s website, the Smashing Pumpkins frontman says he hopes to release the first song around Halloween of this year, with additional tracks coming shortly afterwards “until all 44 are out.” “Free will mean free,” he promises, “which means you won't have to sign up for anything, give an email address, or jump through a hoop. You will be able to go and take the song or songs as you wish, as many times as you wish.”

Titled Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, the album “is based on ‘The Fool’s Journey’ as signified in the progress of the Tarot,” writes Corgan, adding that it’s “[his intention] to approach this by breaking down the journey of our life here into four phases as made by these different characters; the Child, the Fool, the Skeptic, and the Mystic.”

Corgan goes on to say the music for the project harkens back to the Pumpkins’ original psychedelic roots: “atmospheric, melodic, heavy, and pretty.”

While the songs will be available without charge, diehard fans will have the opportunity to buy limited edition EPs consisting of four songs each. Other collectible formats and variations will be offered for sale as well, with a deluxe box set available for purchase after the rollout of songs is complete.

Corgan says recording work for the new material began on Tuesday (Sept. 15), but adds that he’s already written 53 songs for the project.

Jack and Meg in New White Stripes Documentary

This is one of the more uneventful clips you'll ever see, but it is Jack White, so we'll take a look. The White Stripes for years have maintained a pretty quiet image (for years i thought they were tapping each other as brother and sister), but a new film documentary offers a rare insider's look at the pair. The film about their 2007 tour, mostly shot in black and white, offers audiences an intimacy that is not usually seen under the media spotlight.

Director Emmett Malloy's "The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights," which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this week, follows Jack and Meg as they tour every province and territory in Canada, a feat they claim has rarely been attempted. The film will be part of a collection of DVDs, live CDs and a coffee-table book commemorating the band's tour.

When will Juggalos and Maggots realize they are both sofa king we todd did?

Devoting your adolescent life to a group of bad rapping clowns and mask wearing metal hicks is a lose lose situation. I think they should invite the trust fund hippies that follow around Phish and have a steel cage battle royale.

Every time Metallica sings about death an angel gets its wings

A collection of every time Metallica has said the word or words relating to "death" in their self-written studio albums.

Stream Pearl Jam's "Backspacer"

Pearl Jam's ninth studio album Backspacer was released Sunday. The album's produced by Brendan O'Brien who last did '98's Yield.

We finally get a less cynical Pearl Jam album. Lyrically, Backspacer displays a more positive outlook than the band's last few albums. Vedder credited the election of Obama as inspiration for the optimistic lyrics. Regarding the lyrics, Vedder said, "I've tried, over the years, to be hopeful in the lyrics, and I think that's going to be easier now." Gossard stated, "We've made a couple of political and pointed records, the last two in particular, and just to move away from that is great, because it allows you to go back to that when you need to and it refreshes everybody, and it comes down to a beat and a melody and your friends and a lyric and a poem and something that's important to you." Backspacer is the first Pearl Jam album to feature lyrics exclusively written by Vedder since the band's 1994 album, Vitalogy.

You can stream the album on their myspace here.  [sorry guys, this was just pulled (with the exception of "The Fixer". You're gonna have to dl it now.]
